ABOUT
The largest mural I’ve ever created — and no, it’s not really a thousand and one books, but there are quite a lot of them!
The wall itself is divided into three separate sections, which inspired me to structure the “bookshelf” in the same way: it begins with Lithuanian classical literature, continues with contemporary Lithuanian authors, and ends with world classics.
The biggest challenge was the location — the mural faces a busy street, with barely a one-meter sidewalk separating me from passing cars. There was almost no space to step back and see the work from a distance, which made the process both intense and exciting.
Books are a positive and timeless symbol, especially in today’s digital age, when we read fewer printed pages. The spines of the books also echo the pattern of an old wooden fence — fitting, since this concrete wall actually serves as a fence shielding nearby apartments from the traffic noise.
The Kaunas City Municipality funded the project.
