ABOUT
“Open Gallery” is an open-air street art gallery in Vilnius — free and accessible 24/7, all year round, for everyone who enjoys alternative art experiences. Located within an active industrial complex, it provides a unique backdrop for contemporary creativity.
I was grateful to be invited as a guest artist to contribute a piece to this space. The organizers simply told me: “Walk around, pick any spot you like — we’ll take care of the permissions later.” After exploring the area, one particular detail caught my eye — a window that had been bricked over with white bricks, high on the building façade. That sealed the concept.
After several sketches, we decided that an image from the Lithuanian film “Balkonas” (“The Balcony,” directed by Giedrė Beinoriūtė) would fit perfectly. The figures of a boy and a girl transformed the sealed window into a kind of balcony — a poetic gesture turning a closed space into one that opens outward.
The printed panel was installed by a professional company (though, unfortunately, they accidentally dropped or omitted the boy’s hand during the process).
Designer of the visual: Mažvydė Kokanauskienė.
Many thanks to Živilė Diawara for the invitation and support.
