Bin Covers

ABOUT

As autumn settled in, I brought warmer tones to Laisvės Alėja, transforming a row of old trash bin covers into small pieces of street art. After decades of service, these lids were painted just before being retired. It wasn’t an act of vandalism — the project was fully coordinated with both the city administration and the police.

Twelve unique designs were created, each decorating the bins near the central fountain of Laisvės Alėja. The ongoing reconstruction of the avenue offered a rare freedom — since the old infrastructure was due to be replaced, it became an open invitation to experiment and reimagine.

This was part of a joint initiative with the Lithuanian National Television program “7 Kauno dienos”, aimed at revitalizing the spirit of the city’s main pedestrian street.

The future of the bins after reconstruction was uncertain, but that was part of the concept — the works were temporary by nature. I was curious to see how the paint would endure over time, exposed to use, dirt, and movement.
