ABOUT
“Path Home” – A unique mural was brought to life on the side wall of a Vilijampolė apartment building. The watercolor artwork, titled Vakarėjant, was transferred to the wall using a Sprayprinter — an Estonian robotic painting system and one of the very few of its kind in the world. Operated via computer and ropes, the robot meticulously applied individual points of color, echoing Meškaitytė’s signature pointillist technique, creating a full-scale mural in a single day that would have taken a human artist a week.
The mural pays tribute to the largely forgotten Lithuanian painter Lidija Meškaitytė (1926–1993), who, despite limited mobility due to a childhood accident, produced delicate miniature watercolors. The chosen composition harmoniously fits the narrow Vilijampolė street, depicting a serene rural path bathed in evening light. The piece integrates the street’s existing features, including a central utility pole, blending brutalist urban surfaces with pastoral imagery to evoke the memory of Lithuanian village life.
The Kaunas City Municipality funded the project.
