TITLE

“Žarėnai” Garages

ABOUT

A low-budget private commission.
The goal was to soften and visually “hide” the façade of old Soviet-era white brick garages, which stood directly in front of a newly built private apartment complex. Residents there had an unappealing view of the garages, so the mural was meant to make the scene more pleasant.

The project developer initially wanted a more illustrative image, but when I mentioned that it would increase the cost, the discussion ended rather quickly. It’s never easy to convince a project board to go for a minimalist approach.

Only later did I discover the work of British designer Paul Smith, famous for his colorful stripes — an unexpected and fitting connection to this piece.

Made with the help of Arminas Raugevičius.
